REVIEWS:
"These tunes are jangly and really poppy, but they also exude a downtrodden,
eerie sense of gloom. I'm very impressed. The excellent "Crashing Down"
reminds me a little of "About A Girl" ... done Lords of the New Church
style! "Jack The Ripper" is the best Jesus&Mary Chain rip-off the Black
Rebel Motorcycle Club never recorded! All in all, a very promising disc! "
- Joshua Blake Rutledge, NOW WAVE MAGAZINE (USA), Oct. 03
"I particularly like "Jack The Ripper", it's a fantastic song, very powerful, melodic and catchy but also retro and classic sounding. Very good,
and the sonic guitars and vocals are strong too ... "
- Dale Oliviers, MATCHBOX PRODUCTION (UK), Nov. 03
"Lex Riders is undoubtedly a pretty fine vocalist. Going for an Iggy Pop persona, he succeds in the Passenger-esque guitars of "Crashing Down"
and the hyperactive Stooges/NY Dolls glam punk of "Beefcake". His
future is assured as a talented songwriter ***"
- Alison B, BLACK VELVET MAGAZINE (UK), Nov. 03
" I love how he rhymes "my defeat" with "sucky meat" ... in fact, I love his sound as well. This guy feels nostalgic and yet somehow modern
simultaneously. He has found his sound, and not much else is needed ! "
- Derek A. Tremblay, EVOLVING ARTIST (USA), Jan. 04
If you didn't read so beforehand you wouldn't know that Lex Riders is French. His singing voice shows no sign of stilted English at all. As a solo artist, Lex's work is quite impressive. Bringing to mind a 70's glam rock rebel masquerading as a lonely 21st century poet, 'Cold War', 'Cyanide Tonight', 'Ashamed' and co. are song that sound like songs, with a mixture of passion, honesty and an ability to mesmerise and hypnotise. Maybe the solemness found in 'Jack The Ripper', 'Ashamed', 'Samantha', etc needs converting into spriteness in places, but as an overall demo the boy's done good. Solo artists rarely seem to 'make it' in the rock world though so a fully functioning band might be the next step to take. **** (very good)
